The cities of Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Radford and the town of Dublin Virginia, sit in the New River Valley at the Blue Ridge Highlands of southwestern Virginia, about 2 hours north of Winston-Salem, NC.
Blacksburg with a population of about 35,000 is the largest of the four. It is home to the Virginia Polytech Institute (Virginia Tech) and Radford with a population of about 16,000 is home to Radford University. The young student population gives both cities a young and vibrant college town atmosphere.
Main tourist points of interest in the area include Radford's Historic Main Street, the Motor Mile Speedway and the Smithfield Plantation, built in 1773. Both Radford University and Virginia Tech host a multitude of sporting and cultural events year round.
Hotels and motels in Blacksburg and Christiansburg are ideal for Virginia Tech visitors while those in Dublin and Radford are a better fit for visitors of Radford University and the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP). All area hotels offer easy access to the I-81 and area attractions.
